About InflationRank
InflationRank is a free, independent dashboard for understanding what the U.S. economy is doing where you actually live — not what the national headlines say it's doing.
Why this exists
National economic statistics are essential, but they often hide as much as they reveal. A 3 percent national inflation rate is small comfort if your local rent is up 8 percent year-over-year. A "tight labor market" headline doesn't help when unemployment in your county runs twice the national average. The location-specific data needed to see what's actually happening in your area exists — but it's scattered across federal agency websites, published in formats that aren't designed for everyday readers, and almost never compared against national figures so you can tell whether your area is running hotter or cooler than the rest of the country.
InflationRank was built to close that gap. The dashboard pulls the most location-specific figure publicly available for each indicator — down to ZIP code where the data exists, county or metropolitan area where it doesn't — and presents it in one place alongside the national average for context.
What the dashboard shows
Type a ZIP code or let the site auto-detect your location. You'll see, for your specific area:
- Consumer Price Index inflation at the metropolitan or regional level
- Unemployment rate at the county level
- Median home value, rent, and household income at the ZIP code level
- Gasoline prices for your petroleum region
- National benchmarks — the 30-year mortgage rate and federal funds rate
Every card shows whether your local figure is above or below the U.S. average, with a small ⓘ icon identifying the source agency. Underlying numbers are independently verifiable through the public statistical sources listed on our data sources page.
How we operate
InflationRank is an independent project, not affiliated with or endorsed by any government agency, university, or commercial data provider. The site aggregates, normalizes, and presents already-public statistical data, adding location intelligence and a consistent visual treatment so the numbers are easy to read and compare at a glance.
We don't sell or share user data. ZIP code searches are processed in your browser and used only to look up the corresponding statistical figures for that area; we don't store your queries or build behavioral profiles. The site does not require an account.
Who's behind it
InflationRank is built and maintained by an independent team in the United States. The project is bootstrapped, not venture-funded, with no advertising relationships with any of the data providers cited on the site.
